Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their UEFA Champions League title on Saturday, defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw that remained unresolved following extra time.

The final, played in Budapest, saw Arsenal take an early lead through Kai Havertz in the sixth minute. However, PSG responded midway through the second half when Ousmane Dembele converted a penalty to level the score.

Despite several chances at both ends, neither side could find a winner during regulation time or the additional 30 minutes, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.

PSG held their nerve from the spot to secure victory, while Arsenal suffered heartbreak as Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães failed to convert their penalties.

The triumph marked PSG’s second consecutive Champions League title, making them only the second club in the modern Champions League era, after Real Madrid, to win the competition in back-to-back seasons.

PSG manager Luis Enrique also celebrated a personal milestone, claiming his third Champions League crown as a coach. The Spaniard has overseen a remarkable transformation of the Paris club, building a younger and more cohesive squad after the departure of several high-profile stars.

For Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, the defeat represented another painful Champions League final setback, coming two decades after their loss to FC Barcelona in the 2006 final. Despite a spirited defensive display, the Premier League champions fell just short of ending their long wait for European football’s biggest prize.
