Jamal Musiala marked his return to Bayern Munich’s starting XI with a goal as the German giants swept aside Bodo-Glimt 5-0 in their Champions League clash on Thursday.

Michael Olise scored twice, while Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies also found the net as Bayern produced a dominant second-half display to secure another emphatic European victory.

The match was particularly significant for Musiala, who returned to the starting lineup after missing two games following the revelation that he had been dealing with a neurological condition that caused him to collapse during two pre-season matches.

His Bayern teammates celebrated warmly with him after he opened the scoring, underlining the significance of his return.

Bayern’s victory also extended their remarkable record in Champions League opening matches. The six-time European champions have now won 24 consecutive opening games in the competition, a run stretching back to 2002.

Bodo-Glimt, who impressed in last season’s Champions League by reaching the last 16, frustrated Bayern for much of the opening period with a disciplined defensive approach.

Bayern struggled to create clear opportunities before finally finding a breakthrough shortly after the interval.

Musiala reacted quickest after a Harry Kane effort had been blocked, collecting the loose ball before firing into the far corner to put the hosts ahead.

Kane then doubled Bayern’s advantage shortly after the hour mark. The England captain rose to meet an Olise free-kick and headed home, extending his remarkable Champions League scoring streak to eight consecutive matches.

Bayern took complete control in the closing stages and added three more goals during the final 15 minutes.

Davies produced a powerful long-range strike with 13 minutes remaining before Olise added his first goal six minutes later with a spectacular effort from around 25 yards that flew into the top-left corner.

The French winger completed his brace during stoppage time with another impressive finish, putting the finishing touch on a dominant night for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Bodo’s difficult evening was compounded late on when Odin Bjortuft received a straight red card for bringing down the last man with three minutes remaining.

Kompany had made three changes to the side that started Saturday’s goalless draw at Schalke, bringing Musiala, Kane and Olise into the starting lineup.

After a frustrating first half, Bayern eventually found their rhythm after the break and turned the contest into a comfortable victory.
