Institutions: Idris ramps up monthly cash allocation from N10.5m to N40m

The Kebbi State Government has increased the monthly cash allocation of the four state-owned tertiary educational institutions from N10.5 million to N40 million.

The Government had also released about N96 million for accreditation of courses at the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega.

Hon. Isah Abubakar-Tunga, the Commissioner, Ministry for Higher Education disclosed this while addressing a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Abubakar-Tunga explained that Gov. Nasir Idris gave approval for the release of the money in his commitment to promoting tertiary education.

“Before now, Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu, was receiving N2 million monthly cash allocation, College of Health Science and Technology, Jega, N1.5 million, College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri, N5 million, while Kebbi State Polytechnic Dakingari, used to receive N2 million.

“As from May, 2025, His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris has raised the amount to N10 million monthly as cash allocation to each of the four institutions,” Abubakar-Tunga announced.

The commissioner further announced that the government had released about N36 million as intervention to regularise the 2023/2024 un-indexed 556 students of the Departments of Community Health, Environmental Health and Health Education as well as the promotion of the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega.

“Also, the Governor has released about N60 million for the accreditation of seven courses by the NBTE, offered by the College”,

“The courses are National Diploma (ND) Community Health, ND Environmental Health, ND Health Information Management, ND Nutrition and Dietetics, ND Public Health, ND Medical Laboratory, ND Pharmacy Technician.

“Investment in the higher education sector is critical with a view to creating and developing skills and expertise for teaching, research, innovation and invention.

“Thus, financing tertiary institutions is a major concern to any serious government”, the commissioner quoted the governor as saying.
