Ogun govt appraise So-Safe on grassroots security, nabs burglars with stolen items in Idiroko

Ogun State Government, under the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has commended the efforts of the Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) for its critical role in security enhancement at the grassroots level and providing effective support to conventional law enforcement agencies across the state.

The commendation which was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, during a visit to the Corps’ headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, praised the Corps for their constant preservation of peace and order, which in turn as significantly advanced the protection of lives and property and the socio-economic development of the State.

“The So-Safe Corps is playing a vital role in maintaining the peace we are currently enjoying in the state. Their dedication to security at the community level has laid a solid foundation for sustainable development, as they assured the Corps of the Ministry’s continuous support. “As the supervising Ministry, we remain committed to creating an enabling environment that empowers officers to thrive on their duties.”

Speaking during the visit, the State Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, expressed appreciation for the unrelenting support of the state government and the supervising ministry. He noted that recent infrastructural renovations at the headquarters have improved the operational effectiveness of the corps, as he also reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to securing the state by highlighting their proactive approach in curbing crimes through community involvement, sensitization, and orientation programs.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to curb crime through grassroots engagement. We will continue to train and retrain our officers, equipping them with modern tools and techniques for crime tracking, prevention, and investigation.”

Commander Ganzallo urged the 20 Local Government Area chairmen in the State to provide necessary logistic support to the Corps to ensure the safety of their residents. Local Government support is vital. We appeal to our Council Chairmen to partner with us by supplying the logistics needed to keep our communities safe,” he concluded.

Similarly, the So-Safe agency has also arrested one Daniel Olaitan Enitan (24) and Adetona Sodeeq (23) for burglary theft in Idiroko, while on routine patrol on May 7, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., noticed suspicious movements by these individuals in the Aferiku area of the community.

This was contained in a press statement released by the Commander of the Corps (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander of Corps, Moruf Yusuf, the agency team on patrol suspected the young duo due to their behavior and, upon seeing them with backpacks believed to contain stolen items.

Due to this suspicion, the patrol team accosted the suspects. Upon sighting them, they attempted to flee, but were apprehended and interrogated. After an intense interrogation, the suspects confessed to breaking into five different shops previously before the Ikolaje Primary School, along the border road, Idiroko, Ogun state.

Ganzallo disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects, including one power bank, one hammer, one singlet, two large school bags, two crossbody bags, one “3-in-1” boxer pack, six pairs of boxers, six polo shirts, four pairs of jeans trousers, three pairs of Crocs, and eight pairs of palm sandals, the commander confirmed that the suspects and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Finally, Ganzallo reiterated that the So-Safe Corps will not relent in its commitment to community policing and its determination to rid every corner of Ogun State of criminal elements, regardless of their tactics.
