The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gusau, Professor Muazu Gusau Abubakar, has bid farewell to the institution after 5 years of meritorious and selfless service, via a grand lecture presented by a renowned surgeon in Northwestern Nigeria, Dr. Samaila Mungadi.

The ceremony took place at the Science Theater of the FUG today in Damba Area of Gusau the state capital.

In a moment of joyful achievements which put smiles on the faces of staff, students, and visitors who all gathered to bid farewell to the performing V.C, he (the VC) expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah and his team whose support has produced the success we are experiencing today.

The College of Health Science has been a journey of great challenges, as it was commenced when many did not believe in our capacity or the possibility of maintaining such an institution in this part of Nigeria.

The quality of graduates produced and the quality of materials we used for their modern education put us in the limelight, compelling the National University Commission, NUC to encourage us to make more admissions which we did and are still doing.

He commended the sendforth committee for their creative initiative in organizing the public lecture in his honour.

Muazu Abubakar said, his greatest joy is that, the standard of the institution has been uplifted during his 5 years tenure insisting that he was only doing his job for the benefit of mankind and for the growth of the institution.

He urged the incoming VC to maintain the tempo of development and creative transformation that he and his team laid down, stating that the difficult jobs have all been done, the new VC should focus more on the welfare of staff and students as well as the continuous growth of the institution.

Earlier in his lecture titled, “Breaking The Silence, Understanding Prostate Health And Unary Issues”, Dr. Samaila Abubakar Mungadi said, prostate cancer could be caused by excessive use of alcohol or drugs. It could also be inherited via lineage or race.

He debunked the popular knowledge of lack of sexual activity as a possible cause of Prostate cancer, saying that too much sexual activity can lead to quick aging and other numerous diseases.

He advised men between the ages of 40 and 65 to maintain a good diet and exercise as men within these ages are prone to having prostate cancer. And from the age of 70, men are free from the cancerous disease.
