The Ogun State Government has announced a comprehensive N2 billion intervention plan for infrastructure development at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.
Governor Dapo Abiodun made the declaration during the institution’s 15th combined Convocation Ceremony held at its Ojere campus on Tuesday. The projects, according to the governor, include the construction of a 500-seater ultramodern lecture theatre, new access roads leading to the auditorium, a dedicated building for the Department of Accountancy, and a modern library building to be fully equipped for academic use.
To commemorate the occasion, the state government also donated a 28-seater bus to the institution.
“This administration will invest N2 billion in a series of intervention projects that will transform the infrastructure and academic environment of MAPOLY,” Governor Abiodun announced, adding that the government’s efforts are aimed at restoring the institution’s vibrancy and positioning it as a leading polytechnic in Nigeria.
In recognition of academic excellence, the governor also awarded N2.5 million to each of the best graduating students from the 2016 to 2024 academic sets, acknowledging their resilience and dedication.
He noted that MAPOLY’s revival, following its earlier relocation and rebranding as Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia, has been successful, with the school ecosystem now fully restored and thriving.
“Thousands of graduates from MAPOLY have gone on to make meaningful contributions both locally and globally,” Abiodun said. “This convocation is a milestone that affirms our commitment to education as a tool for societal development.”
The governor emphasized the administration’s focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education as a strategic response to youth unemployment, urging the graduating students to be innovative and resilient.
In his remarks, the Chairman of MAPOLY’s Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Kamarudeen Balogun, expressed appreciation to the governor for his unwavering support. He noted the institution’s progress in academic and administrative development under the current leadership.
The convocation ceremony marked a renewed commitment to excellence in technical education in Ogun State.
