Police reclaims bandits besieged areas, return thousands of IDPs to their communities in Zamfara

In a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in Zamfara State, the Zamfara State Police Command under the leadership of CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello has successfully facilitated the return of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral communities in the state.

Fegin Kanawa Village in Gusau Local Government Area have been displaced from their ancestral settlement for over one year as a result of persistent bandit attacks.

According to the statement by DSP Yazid Abubakar, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command in Gusau, the initiative is in line with the commitment and strategic vision of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, psc+, mnips, to restore normalcy, strengthen public confidence, and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

The returning residents were assured of adequate security measures by the Nigeria Police Force, enabling them to resume farming and other lawful activities without fear of attacks, kidnapping, or intimidation by criminal elements.

As part of efforts to reinforce the security architecture of the state, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, officially launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at Fegin Kanawa Village.

Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, for his continuous support towards security operations and community safety initiatives, which has greatly contributed to the successes recorded by the Command.

CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering determination to rid the state of banditry and all forms of violent crimes, stressing that there would be no hiding place for criminals in Zamfara State.

The Commissioner further stated that the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit was built on the principles of professionalism, accountability, discipline, and respect for human rights in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Act 2020. He added that personnel attached to the unit underwent intensive specialized training to enhance operational efficiency and professional conduct.

In his remarks, Governor Dauda Lawal commended the Inspector-General of Police for the establishment of the unit, describing the initiative as timely, strategic, and critical to ongoing efforts aimed at addressing insecurity and violent crimes in the state.

The Governor also applauded the proactive leadership, resilience, and operational strategies of CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello in strengthening security and restoring confidence among communities affected by criminal activities.
