Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has defined women as drivers of change in social and economic progress in the world.
Nwifuru noted that women are actively breaking barriers, and fostering a more equitable and sustainable world as agents who inspire change.
The governor, represented by the Deputy Gov, Mrs Patricia Obila, made this known on Saturday at the grand finale of the 2025 Ebonyi Women’s August Meeting with the theme: “Women who Inspire change”.
He expressed satisfaction with Ebonyi women’s contributions and solidarity in his administration and assured them of more inclusiveness in governance.
In her remarks, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru charged them to use their potential to inspire change.
According to her, change is not only to hold public office and lead in politics, but to teach a child, mentor another woman, build a family rooted in values, and contribute to community growth.
She added that lending a helping hand to the vulnerable was also part of the change expected.
“Change is the responsibility of everyone in raising Godly and disciplined children, inspiring change by practicing honesty and excellence, communities, standing against violence, and injustice, among others.
“Let us also remember that empowering one another is key.
“No woman should pull another down, but instead create a sisterhood of support, mentorship, and collective growth,” Mrs Nwifuru said.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Felicia Nwamkpuma, stated that the conference is more than a reunion.
Nwamkpuma described the conference as a great platform for community development, conflict resolution, and chatting for a better future of the home and the society.
She commended the governor and his wife for their various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women in the state.
The senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial zone, Mr Onyekachi Nwebonyi, lauded the meeting for the opportunity to empower, inspire, and provide opportunities for networking and personal growth of women in the state.
Nwebonyi commended Gov Nwifuru who understood that women are at the heart of building the state and nation.
Mrs Eunice Egwu and Mrs Josephine Elechi, Wives of Former Governors of the state, also charged women to take advantage of the teachings and lessons from the women’s conference for development.
