Bichi Local Government Council has called on parents and the general public to ensure that their children receive routine immunization and to immediately take them to the hospital if they show symptoms of diphtheria.

The Head of the Health Department in Bichi, Kabiru Abubakar Gwarzo, made this call while giving an update on the outbreak of the disease, which has been reported in some areas of the state, including Bichi.

He stated this when the outbreak was reported in the area, the local government swiftly deployed health personnel who administered necessary treatment and vaccinations, while compiling the names of infected persons. He urged the public to cooperate with health workers to help contain the disease effectively.

“This outbreak in our communities is a serious concern. The key message is for parents and guardians to bring their children to health facilities for routine vaccinations, as these are vital in protecting them from preventable diseases,” he stressed.

He further added that the Chairman of Bichi LGA, Alhaji Hamza Sule Mai Fata, has committed to providing all the necessary support to improve the health and well-being of the people in the area.

Some relatives of children who died from the outbreak shared their tragic experiences. “All the children fell ill around the same time and were taken to the hospital.

First, Hassan died, followed by Firdausi, then Usaina, the fourth was Usaini, and the fifth, who passed away three days ago, was also named Hassan,” as stated by Malam Habibu Da’u, the children’s grandfather.
