Ogun declares August 20 as public holiday for Isese Day Celebration

The Ogun State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the annual Isese Day celebration.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.
It would be recalled that in 2023, the Ogun State House of Assembly passed a motion recognizing August 20 as Isese Day, a decision that was subsequently approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, thereby making it an official public holiday in the state.
Isese Day is dedicated to celebrating Yoruba religion, culture, and traditions. According to the state government, the annual observance underscores Governor Abiodun’s commitment to preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural identity.
“Isese Day serves as an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba religion to honour their ancestors, engage in traditional practices, and promote the values and teachings inherent in their spiritual beliefs,” the statement read in part.
The government further noted that the celebration provides a platform not only for practitioners to strengthen communal ties but also for the wider society to appreciate and respect the enduring contributions of Yoruba culture to Nigeria’s heritage.
