In addition to other infrastructures completed and commissioned by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has commissioned the Kugbo Bus and Taxi terminal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), marking a significant milestone in the nation’s urban transportation strategy, according to a press release from Rabi Musa Umaru, the Assistant Director, Office of the Minister on Thursday.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu stated that the terminal represents a fundamental shift in the nation’s approach to urban transportation, designed to bring order, safety, and comfort to commuters.
The Kugbo terminal, one of three terminals in the FCT, features advanced security features, including comprehensive CCTV surveillance, and an organized system for vehicles and drivers. The President emphasized that this development is part of his administration’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, aimed at rebuilding and revitalizing the nation’s infrastructure.
Tinubu urged residents to utilize the terminal responsibly and reject the dangers of patronizing unauthorized roadside parks. He stressed that the government has provided a safe and secure alternative, and it is essential for residents to cooperate with management to ensure the terminal’s smooth operation.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike thanked the President for his support and emphasized the need for the terminals to be managed by the private sector. He warned residents against boarding vehicles on the roadside, stating that the government has provided a safe and secure alternative.
The FCT Administration (FCTA) is committed to building additional bus terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada to ensure a more spread of safe transportation. The Mandate Secretary, Transportation Secretariat, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, highlighted the strategic location of the Kugbo terminal, which will serve as both an inter-city and intra-city transportation hub.
The terminal, which will operate 24 hours a day, is expected to handle a high volume of passenger traffic, catering to the needs of residents in the FCT and neighboring towns in Nasarawa state. The FCTA Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, thanked President Tinubu and the National Assembly for their support for the FCTA.
