Standing Committee on Public Accounts of the Niger state house of assembly has commenced hearings concerning the financial statements and reports from the Auditor-General for Local Governments in the state.

This process involves the Chairpersons and Directors from the 25 Local Government Areas and is currently focused on Zone “C,” which includes Borgu, Wushishi, Rijau, Magama, Mariga, Mashegu, Agwara, and Kontagora.

In accordance with Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the primary objective of these hearings is to verify the accuracy and fairness of the submitted documents and to recommend appropriate sanctions for any violations of existing financial regulations to the House.

The Chairman, represented by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Sani Umar (Kontagora 1), addressed the Local Government Chairpersons and Directors, emphasizing the Committee’s constitutional duty to thoroughly review the documents and recommend necessary actions.

These hearings follow the initial presentation of the documents at the House plenary, which were subsequently referred to the Public Accounts Committee for further legislative review.

The Committee’s hearings are designed to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and resources, thereby fostering good governance and fiscal discipline across all 25 Local Government Areas in the State.
