Abia gov’t to revolutionize its education sector

The Abia state commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, has announced that the state is embarking on an unprecedented journey toward revolutionizing its education sector through the launching of the “Abia FIRST” program in the state.

The commissioner made this announcement at a press briefing put together by his ministry on Tuesday at the Government House Umuahia as a prelude to the official inauguration of the “Abia FIRST” Educational program by the state Governor, Dr . Alex Otti, on Wednesday.

“Abia FIRST, “the commissioner said, is an acronym that stands for Fostering Innovation and Reform for School Transformation in the state.

Elder Ubochi said that the transformation is being implemented through a strategic partnership between the Abia state government and the Education Reform and Innovation Team (ERIT), a consortium of accomplished education experts, innovators, and transformation agents.

He said that as a prelude to the launching of “Abia FIRST,” the state has successfully trained 200 lead master trainers and 2000 master teachers, who will drive the training model to reach over 9000 teachers across the state.

“Abia FIRST program represents a holistic approach to education transformation, encompassing early childhood development, basic education enhancement, secondary school reform, technical and vocational training, digital learning integrations, career education, and community engagement,” Elder Ubochi stated.

The commissioner said that “Abia FIRST” will also focus on institutional reforms and school transformation that will introduce innovative solutions in the area of digital learning platforms, comprehensive curriculum framework, teacher professional development,, and robust monitoring evaluation systems.

He said that the launch event will showcase the government’s achievements to date in the education sector and equally outline the road map for transforming education in the state.

In his contribution during the press briefing, the Adviser to the Abia state Governor on Education, Dr. Ekenechukwu Nwosu, said that Abia state is the first state to launch this Education model in Nigeria, and it will make Abia children receive the type of education comparatively in line with the best practices in the world.
