UNIPORT Governing Council commends Wike’s contributions

The University of Port Harcourt’s Governing Council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, according to a press statement from the Director, Press, Office of the Minister, Anthony Ogunleye Monday.
The visit aimed to congratulate Minister Wike on his well-deserved appointment and commend his exceptional performance as FCT Minister. Senator Ohuabunwa expressed the council’s profound admiration for Wike’s outstanding service and remarkable achievements.
Minister Wike, an alumnus of the University of Port Harcourt, has made significant contributions to the institution. These include the establishment of the Faculty of Law, the construction of its building, and the development of a world-class Convocation Arena.
The council requested Minister Wike’s support in establishing a Centre of Leadership Studies in the FCT and equipping the Convocation Arena with multimedia facilities. They also sought his assistance in addressing infrastructural needs, including the refurbishment of the Convocation Arena and the construction of a Council Chamber.
In response, Minister Wike expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated his unwavering commitment to the University of Port Harcourt. He pledged to allocate land in the FCT for the Centre of Leadership Studies and provide multimedia facilities for the Convocation Arena.
The Minister emphasized the importance of alumni contributions to university development, stating that the federal government alone cannot shoulder this responsibility. He challenged the Council to rise above ethnic and primordial politics.
The visit underscores the strong bond between the University of Port Harcourt and Minister Wike, highlighting their shared commitment to advancing educational excellence and infrastructure development at the university.
