Lagos: Dokunmu-Adegbite assumes office as Permanent Secretary for Basic, Secondary Education

Lagos State has appointed Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. With over 25 years of experience in the state’s public service, she brings a wealth of leadership expertise to her new role.
Dokunmu-Adegbite, who was previously deployed to the Audit Service Commission after her appointment as a Permanent Secretary by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in November 2024, now takes charge of the education ministry.
She’s Born on December 7, 1972, in Lagos Island, Dokunmu-Adegbite began her education at Fountain Nursery & Primary School, Surulere, before attending the Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University (LASU) in 1995 and later pursued two Master’s degrees—one in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos in 2004 and another in International Human Resource Management from the Rome Business School, Lagos, in 2024.
Her career in the Lagos State Public Service began in 1999 as an Administrative Officer and saw her rise through various strategic positions across multiple ministries, departments, and agencies.
A distinguished professional, Dokunmu-Adegbite is a fellow of several reputable institutions, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), the Association of Human Resource Practitioners of Nigeria (AHR), the Institute of Strategic Management (ISMN), and the Association of Corporate Governance Professionals Nigeria (CGPN). She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (Delaware, USA).
Additionally, she served as the President of the Policy, Strategy & Leadership Course (Set 41) at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
With her extensive background in public administration and human resource management, Dokunmu-Adegbite is expected to drive significant improvements in Lagos State’s education sector. Her leadership is anticipated to enhance policy implementation and educational standards across the state.
She is married and blessed with children.
