Umuahia South Local Government of Abia State, on Thursday, painted the local government headquarters, Apumiri Ubakala green through tree cash crop planting and exhibition of Agricultural initiatives, reminding Abians that our soil is rich.
In his welcome remarks, during the tree planting and Agric Exhibition show, which is the first of its kind from a local government in Abia state, Umuahia South local government Executive Chairman, Hon.Chinedu Enwereuzor, said that tree planting and agricultural exhibition is a deliberate effort to reinvigorate our agricultural base and re-awaked the family spirit that has always been the pride of our people.
“We are gathered here today to remind our people that our soil is rich, our hands are strong and our future can be prosperous if we invest wisely in Agriculture.”
He said that they are promoting tree planting not only for environmental restoration but for economic empowerment, adding that they are selecting Cocoa and hybrid oil palm for distribution and planting as they have great economic potential.
Mayor Enwereuzor expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for his continuous guidance and visionary leadership in providing a solid foundation for the benefit of the people.
He assured farmers of adequate security for their cash and other farm crops and thanked stakeholders in the Agricultural business in the state for their support towards sustaining the program.
In her goodwill remarks, the Abia Farmers Association of Nigeria(AFAN) Chairperson, Lady Gift Ogbonna, thanked the state Governor and his wife for their visionary leadership and for making Agriculture the bedrock of our economy.
She equally promised to give the chairman of Umuahia South the necessary and needed support for the program to succeed.
In his own remarks, the Chairman Umuahia South Traditional Rulers Council,HRH Eze Boniface Chidi Onyemachi, called for the sustain ace of the program and urged the people to embrace the program for their own good.
The Umuahia South Agriculture exhibition and tree planting campaign futured lectures from Agriculture experts, tree plantings and exhibitions of Agricultural products and distribution of, farm implements and agro chemicals to the people.
