Umuahia to get 40,000 seater FIFA standard new stadium

Imo Thomas -Umuahia.
The Governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti, in his determination to take sporting activities to higher height in the state, has disclosed that Umuahia the capital city of Abia state, will in no distant time get a 40,000 seater FIFA standard brand new stadium that befits the state capital.
The Governor made this disclosure over the weekend while reacting to questions during the governor’s media chat about the problems Enyimba International football club is facing while playing their international CAF engagements outside the state.
The Governor said that apart from bringing Enyimba Stadium Aba to standard to enable Enyimba International Football Club to play their international CAF engagements at the stadium, “we have also started the process of getting a brand new stadium for Umuahia.
“We believe that the township stadium in Umuahia is so constrained, and even though you spend some money, you’ll just retrofit; we believe that Umuahia deserves a standard stadium. We are engaging with a partner who has concluded the design of a 40,000-capacity stadium.
“They are going to come with the money and we will work out an arrangement whereby they will own a certain percentage of the stadium and take their money back over a period of time while the government partners with them
“I am confident that before the end of the first half of this year, the project will have been flagged off, and construction will begin, “Governor assured.
