Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has signed into law, “THE BENUE STATE ELECTRICITY LAW, 2026.”

Governor Alia performed the ceremony on Monday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi.

Contained in a press release signed by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on Monday and made available to Journalists explained that the law is expected to have several positive impacts on the people and economy of Benue State.

According to the release, the positive impacts include;

Improved Power Supply:
The law will create a legal framework for increased electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within the state, leading to more reliable and stable power supply for homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals.

Economic Growth and Job Creation:
Improved electricity will attract investors, encourage the establishment of industries and businesses, and create employment opportunities for thousands of Benue residents, particularly youths.

Reduced Cost of Doing Business:
Businesses will spend less on generators, fuel, and alternative power sources. This will lower production costs, increase profitability, and make locally produced goods more competitive.

Enhanced Consumer Protection:
The law provides mechanisms for enforcing consumer rights, ensuring fair billing practices, improved service delivery, quicker resolution of complaints, and accountability from electricity providers.

Rural Electrification and Improved Quality of Life:
Communities that currently lack access to electricity can benefit from expanded power infrastructure, improving healthcare services, education, agricultural processing, security, and overall living standards across the state.

In summary, the law will help deliver more reliable electricity, stimulate economic development, protect consumers, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for residents across Benue State, positioning the state for greater industrialization and sustainable growth.
