The Benue State Gubernatorial Flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and ex – Federal law maker Hon. Iorwase Herman Hembe, on Monday promised to restore the lost glory of the State in all sectors, ensure that peace triumph and strengthen local government areas.
Hembe also pledged to reclaim communities occupied by armed herders if elected governor in 2027.governorship election.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation as the ADC governorship candidate, Hembe described the party’s primary election as “historic” and thanked party leaders and supporters for what he called a unanimous mandate.
He particularly praised former Senate President David Mark, who heads the party’s leadership team in the state, alongside other officials for organising what he termed a successful exercise.
“The ADC is a party on a mission, and the Benue State chapter has always been poised to win,” Hembe declared.
He said his victory margin of over 20,000 votes against his closest rival showed the confidence party members had in his leadership.
The ADC flagbearer promised to prioritise peace, transparency and fiscal autonomy for local governments, accusing past and present political actors of neglecting the people while engaging in endless political battles.
“I intend to bring peace to Benue communities. I intend to guarantee fiscal autonomy to our local governments and bring transparency in governance,” he said.
Hembe also took a swipe at the current administration over insecurity in the state, accusing it of abandoning the anti-open grazing law enacted by the previous government.
According to him, the present administration failed to protect communities from attacks by armed bandits and terrorists.
“The first item on our agenda will be returning our lands to the people who own them and removing those who came to kill our people and take over our property,” he stated.
The ADC candidate vowed that his administration would enforce policies aimed at securing lives and property across Benue State.
