Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described Arsenal as the Premier League champions “in this moment”, as the title race heads towards a tense conclusion.

Guardiola’s comments came ahead of City’s midweek trip to Burnley, where a win at Turf Moor could take them to the top of the table.

City boosted their title push with a 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday, but Guardiola insisted the focus inside his squad remains fixed and disciplined as the run-in continues.

“We talk immediately in the dressing room after the game,” Guardiola said.

“Don’t lose focus. The focus is on Arsenal’s top of the league.

“Right now, in this moment, they will be champions.”

Despite City’s strong position and momentum, Guardiola was keen to stress that nothing has been decided yet, with several decisive fixtures still to come in the Premier League season.

However, City’s preparations for Burnley have been hit by an injury setback, with key midfielder Rodri ruled out of the match at Turf Moor after picking up a groin problem during the win over Arsenal.

The Spain international did not recover in time for Wednesday’s league clash, and there are growing concerns over his availability for the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton this weekend.

“I think for tomorrow he will not be ready,” Guardiola told a pre-match press conference.

“We’ll see for the next games the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton or 12 days later for the Premier League game at Everton.”
