Kebbi Govt tackles mischief makers on condition of health facilities

By: John Bassey.

The Kebbi State Government has tackled what it described as a malicious and fabricated story by mischief makers on the alleged poor condition of health facilities in rural areas of the state.

It could be recalled some people had posted some pictures of a place that they claimed was one of the health facilities in Kebbi’s rural areas.

This is just a mere mischief by some people, and the picture does not show that it is a health facility, but rather the frontage of a house.

The originators of the story also failed to mention the name of the health facility and its location, signifying that something is hidden.

‘When this present administration came on board, it met many of the health facilities in the state in various stages of dilapidation due to years of neglect in terms of regular renovations.

“However, the situation is not as bad as these faceless people are portraying.

“The present administration has committed huge resources for the revitalization of primary health centers and general hospitals in the state.

“From the beginning of this year, 14 primary health centers and one General Hospital at Bena town have been revitalized and the revitalization of another 191 primary health centers will soon commence through the State’s IMPACT Project.”

The government is also revitalizing and upgrading six General Hospitals across the 4 Emirate Councils in the state at Argungu, Yauri, Zuru, Birnin-Kebbi, and Koko to be able to provide specialized medical services closer to the people.

Already that of Argungu has been completed and commissioned by His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.

In addition, 25 Primary Health Centers and General Hospitals were provided with hospital beds recently.

There is adequate budgetary provision for the renovation, solarisation, and equipping of both PHCs and General Hospitals across the state in the 2025 state budget.

With regards to the supply of drugs to hospitals, this present administration has renovated and upgraded the State’s Central Medical Store and has recently completed the construction of the abandoned office building of the State’s Drug Management Agency.

This office will soon take off and will be responsible for the management of the state’s Drug Revolving Fund, which will ensure a regular supply of quality and affordable drugs and medical consumables to all our health facilities.

Accordingly, the solarisation project is ongoing for some of the health facilities. Already the project at the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital in Kalgo has been completed.

The hospital now enjoys a 24-hour power supply due to the installation of the solar power system in the facility.
