Abba Kyari ‘s troubles are far from over, as the United States Government has gathered over 6,700 pages of documentary evidence and 2,700 electronic files from his trial in a $1.1 million fraud case involving him and disgraced fraudster Ramon Olorunwa Abass a.k.a. Hushpuppi, according to court documents.
It will be recalled that Kyari got himself into trouble earlier this year when he was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI for his role in a massive $1.1 million fraud perpetrated on a Qatari businessman by Hushpuppi and a few other people.
Standard Times reliably gathered that US prosecutors are currently scouring through investigative reports and “new discoveries” including documents obtained from foreign law enforcement. Prosecutors have asked the U.S. District Court for Central California to postpone trial from October 2021 to 17 May, 2022.
A joint application for the trial postponement was filed on Friday by the parties, who provided a variety of justifications for their decision. The United States Attorney’s Office requested additional time to process a trove of documents, some of which were obtained from foreign countries, in addition to the time needed by the defence lawyers to prepare for the case.
As stated in the application, the United States government has already turned over approximately 2.31 GB of data, which includes 2,707 electronic files, to the Department of Defense. There are a variety of files in the folder, including exported chat logs, Cellebrite reports, WhatsApp messages, audio recordings, and other information.
This was followed by an announcement from the Department of Justice that prosecutors were currently processing approximately 6,773 pages of additional discovery that would be produced in two weeks. They are accused of violating 18 U.S.C. 1349 (conspiracy to commit wire fraud), 1956(h) (conspiracy to engage in money laundering) and 1028A(a)(1) (aggravated identity theft), among other statutes. A total of 2,707 files containing exported chat logs, Cellebrite reports, WhatsApp messages, audio recordings, and other social media content have been provided to the defence by the government.
