Nigeria’s Falconets have booked their place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after producing a stunning 10-1 victory over New Caledonia in their final Group F match on Sunday.

The emphatic result lifted Nigeria to four points from three matches and secured second place behind Spain, sending Moses Aduku’s side into the Round of 16.

Ramotalahi Kareem and substitute Winner David each scored three goals, while Rebecca Adegbemile contributed a brace. Seimeyeha Akekoromowei and Tosin Rafiu also got their names on the scoresheet.

Kareem opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before Adegbemile doubled Nigeria’s advantage two minutes later.

Akekoromowei added a third in the 23rd minute, and Kareem struck again four minutes later as the Falconets went into half-time with a commanding 4-0 lead.

David was introduced at the beginning of the second half and needed only 15 minutes to make her mark, scoring Nigeria’s fifth goal in the 60th minute.

Kareem completed her hat-trick four minutes later before Rafiu added another in the 70th minute.

Adegbemile then scored her second seven minutes later, while David completed her own hat-trick by finding the net twice during the final 15 minutes.

New Caledonia managed a consolation goal through Joceline Kourevi in the 89th minute, but the damage had already been done.

Spain finished top of Group F with nine points after defeating China 3-1. China also ended the group stage on four points, but Nigeria advanced ahead of them on goal difference.

The Falconets began the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Spain before drawing 0-0 with China, leaving Sunday’s match as a must-win encounter.

Nigeria, who have twice reached the final of the U-20 Women’s World Cup, will now prepare for the knockout phase.

According to FIFA’s competition format, the top two teams in each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, progress to the knockout rounds.
