Niger Delta Grassroots Organization, NDGO, says recent relations/moves by His Majesty, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to neighbouring kings and kingdoms in Warri Federal Constituency show respect and portend enduring peace and development for the area.
Speaking to newsmen in Warri on Thursday, the NDGO’s National Coordinator, Comrade Weyinmi Olley, said: “First, it was a visit to the Pere-Amakosu of Ogbe-Ijoh-Warri Kingdom. Although details of the earlier visit were not disclosed, the Olu’s visit is widely seen as a peace shuttle that promises development and progress in the Warri area.
“We are impressed that at the recent soccer meet by the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo, tagged “Unity Cup” to commemorate Ogiame Atuwatse III’s 5th coronation anniversary, the 3 ethnic groups reflected disposition to ensure and promote peace. We note that at the soccer meet at the Federal Government College, Warri, the Olu of Warri and HM, Igbi II, Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, both preached peace among their subjects with the Olu banning the use of the word slavery on neighbours by his subjects in the media space. His resolve to place a curse on defaulters within his kingdom reinforce his commendable sincerity and guarantees a new order in inter-ethnic relationships and peace building”, Oley said.
“We appreciate and call on likes of Amaju Pinnick, Delta State’s pride in soccer administration in Nigeria, to continue to use football’s force for unity to unite the ethnic groups in Warri. For too long, disagreements and conflicts among the Warri tribes have chased away investors from the area. We urge all ethnic groups to sustain the visible and commendable reciprocation of the Olu’s peace moves for the development and progress of Warri”, Oley advised.
