Ogun extends one-day work palliative, ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for Civil Servants

By: Lauretta Fagbohun, Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Government has extended its one-day-off-duty work palliative for eligible public and civil servants, while also approving the continued payment of a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for another three months.

The approval, granted by Governor Dapo Abiodun, will see workers receive the transport allowance from July to September 2026 as part of the administration’s efforts to cushion the effects of rising transportation costs and improve workers’ welfare.

The extension follows a similar intervention implemented between April and June 2026 after the increase in the pump price of petrol.

According to the government, the measures are intended to ease the financial burden on workers while sustaining productivity and efficient service delivery across the public service.
A circular issued by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Iskeel Olanrewaju Saka, stated that the one-day-off-duty concession would continue to apply only to eligible workers. However, officers on shift duties and personnel rendering essential services are exempted from the arrangement.

Those excluded include medical personnel, judicial workers, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, and other officials receiving Special Responsibility Allowances whose duties require their physical presence at work.

The Head of Service urged beneficiaries to make responsible use of the palliative while ensuring that government services remain efficient and uninterrupted. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ welfare, pledging to continue introducing policies that improve staff well-being, boost morale, and enhance productivity despite prevailing economic challenges. It said the extension reflects Governor Abiodun’s determination to support civil servants and ensure that economic pressures do not affect effective public service delivery across the state.
