Gov Lawal distributes fertilizer, herbicide, inputs, motorcycles, mobile phones to farmers in Zamfara

The Governor of Zamfara state Dr Dauda Lawal has flagged off the distribution of 72000 bags of fertilizer, 200,000 litres of herbicide, 100 pieces of food crutchers, 100 grass Choppers, 100 milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones for Agricultural extension agents in the state.

The event took place at Trade fair complex located in Lalan Area, Bye Pass Road, Gusau.

The exercise marked the sixth distribution programme of Governor Dauda Lawal within his three years in office.

Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said, it is my pleasure welcoming you all to the flag-off of 2026 wet season farming fertilizer and input distribution exercise.

Today’s Event represent another significant milestone in our commitment in revitalizing Agriculture, strengthening food security, creating sustainable livelihood, supporting our farmers and repositioning Zamfara state as a major contributor of Nigeria’s Agricultural economy.

It is important to note that Zamfara state is blessed with vast fertile land and hardworking, peace loving people whose history, culture and economy are deeply connected to Agriculture for generations.

Farming remain primary source of livelihood for the majority of our people and one of our greatest opportunities for inclusive economic growth and sustainable development if we all determine to say farewell to poverty, banditry, insurgency and other forms of criminalities.

Historically, Zamfara state has occupied a strategic position as one of the Agricultural strongholds of Nigeria, even before the emergence of other economic opportunities, our communities were known for extensive Agriculture production, livestock development and vibrant trade that supported livelihood and contributed significantly to food supply across the region and country at large.

Agriculture therefore is not just an economic opportunity, it is part of our identity, heritage, resilience and foundation from which generation has built prosperity and will continue to do so in greater proportion.

Our mission as an administration is to restore and expand this proud legacy by moving Zamfara beyond traditional subsistence farming to a more productive technology driven and commercial farming Agricultural economy.through improved input mechanization, irrigation development, extension services, climate support practices and stronger markets linkages.

My administration is determined to unlock the full potential of farmers in the state and reposition Zamfara as a leading centre for Agricultural production and value creation In the economic system of Nigeria.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, despite the security situation that affects our state and some parts of the country over the years, we have remained focused and determined.

Our responsibility as government is to sustain progress by providing the necessary support, infrastructure and enabling environment required for our farmers to succeed.

It is therefore my pleasure to announce under the 2026 Wet season Agricultural support programme that Zamfara state government is distributing 72000 bags of fertilizer, 200,000 litres of herbicide, 100 pieces of food crutchers, 100 grass Choppers, 100 milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones for Agricultural extension agents.

These interventions are designed to strengthen both crops and livestock production, improved agriculture extension services, enhance productivity and ensure all farmers in the state have access to modern techniques and professional support.

He urged the distribution committee to be transparent and honest in duties bearing in mind that the administration has zero tolerance for diversion.

In his words, the Commissioner, Zamfara state Ministry of Agriculture, Honourable Ya’u Haruna Gamji noted that, today’s seasonal Agricultural support programme marked the six times the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has supported farmers in the state within his three years in office.

He commended the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal for being consistent in timely seasonal support for farmers in the state.

One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Hadiza Muhammadu from Bungudu Local Government expressed appreciation over the farming input received, saying that it would assist her to get her job done with ease.

She thanked Governor Dauda Lawal and the state ministry of agriculture for making the process successful for all farmers in the state.
