LAWMA appeals for calm over Solous III landfill fire

By: Tijani Salako.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has appealed to residents to remain calm following a fire outbreak at the closed Solous III landfill in Igando, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Sunday morning.

According to a statement issued by the Authority’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, LAWMA said it was working closely with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other relevant emergency and security agencies to contain the fire, safeguard lives and property, and minimise any environmental impact.

The Authority said preliminary information had been received on the incident but noted that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the fire.

It added that it would be premature to speculate on the cause of the incident until all relevant facts had been established and verified.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, assuring residents that further updates would be communicated through its official channels as more verified information becomes available.

The Authority also urged members of the public to remain calm and disregard unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.
