The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with alleged armed robbery, housebreaking, stealing, conspiracy, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, noting that the arrests followed intelligence led operations carried out by police operatives in the Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado Divisions.
According to Babaseyi, officers attached to the Sango-Ota Division apprehended three suspects identified as Pelumi Akintonde, 21; Mojeed Sanusi, 28; and Mubarak Lateef, 17, over their alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident in the Alasia community.
He explained that the suspects allegedly took part in an attack on a resident during which valuables were forcefully stolen. A locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered from the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who remain at large.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Owode-Egba Division arrested Damilare Makanjuola, 22, in connection with an alleged housebreaking and theft case in Ofada. Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to several burglary incidents within Sun City Estate, where electrical appliances, cash, and other valuables were stolen.
The police spokesperson further revealed that two suspects, Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22, were arrested for alleged conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village. The suspects were intercepted while attempting to dispose of electrical appliances allegedly stolen from a residence in the estate. The items were recovered, while investigations indicated that entry into the property had been forcibly gained.
Also, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin, 22, for allegedly causing public disturbance and issuing threats of violence around a secondary school environment. A knife was recovered from the suspect, and police said their prompt intervention prevented a possible breakdown of law and order in the area.
Babaseyi stated that all seven suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response. He also appreciated residents for providing timely information that contributed to the success of the arrests.
The police command reiterated its commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ogun State.
