The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, has dismissed the opposition Advance Democratic Congress (ADC) as “old wine in a new bottle”, stating that the party will fail to deceive voters in the 2027 general elections. Achida made this remark during a stakeholders’ meeting of Tambuwal Local Government Area, emphasizing that no opposition party will make a significant impact in Sokoto.
Achida’s comments come amid reports of defections from the APC to the ADC in Sokoto, with some analysts predicting a potential shift in the state’s political landscape. However, Achida remains confident in the APC’s chances, citing the party’s achievements, including the establishment of Mega Schools in each senatorial district.
The APC Chairman urged residents to support Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, highlighting the governor’s commendable performance compared to his predecessor, Aminu Waziru Tambuwal.
Achida also emphasized the need for young politicians to take the reins, as older politicians regrouping in the ADC won’t change the outcome of the next election.
Chief of Staff, Government House, Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Halliru Dikko, echoed Achida’s sentiments, praising Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako’s endorsement of Governor Aliyu during the 2023 elections. Dikko noted that Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure failed to deliver for the people, contrasting with Governor Aliyu’s achievements.
The state Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, announced plans to establish three Mega Schools in each senatorial district, with Tambuwal Local Government benefiting from the project.
The APC’s confidence is matched by the ADC’s efforts to consolidate its base, with recent defections from the APC and other parties. The ADC’s national leadership has expressed optimism about challenging the APC in 2027.
The 2027 elections are shaping up to be a significant contest, with various parties vying for power. The APC’s Achida and the ADC’s leadership are engaged in a war of words, each confident in their party’s chances.
The outcome of the elections remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the stakes are high, and the parties are gearing up for a tough fight.
