Nigeria is poised to enter a new era of industrial growth driven by innovation, indigenous technology, and local resourcefulness, according to the Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Professor Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso.
Speaking at the Investors’ Forum on the Commercialisation of Indigenous Technologies, held at the Council’s Research and Demonstration Plant Complex (RDPC) in Abuja, Prof. Ike-Muonso highlighted the strategic role of homegrown technologies in reshaping the country’s industrial future.
The event brought together key industry stakeholders, policymakers, researchers, and investors, all with a shared interest in scaling up viable technologies developed at the RDPC for broader commercial application.
“Fifty years ago, the idea of an industrialised Nigeria seemed like a distant dream,” Prof. Ike-Muonso remarked during his address. “It was a time marked by overdependence on raw material exports and a weak manufacturing base. But today, we stand at the threshold of a new era—one built on innovation and the inherent resourcefulness of our people.”
The Director-General reaffirmed RMRDC’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s raw material potential into a catalyst for sustainable industrial development. He noted that the Council has continued to invest in research and the practical demonstration of locally developed technologies to move the country away from exporting raw materials toward producing high-value finished goods.
The forum served as a platform to showcase these innovations, offering a window for private-sector investment and policy support to drive commercial-scale adoption.
