The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has identified ineffective communication as a critical issue undermining leadership across the country.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Nigerian Public Relations Week in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, NIPR President Dr. Ike Neliaku said stronger collaboration and clear communication are essential to national development.

“Lack of effective communication is a major problem of leadership in Nigeria,” Dr. Neliaku stated. “We can build a prosperous Nigeria, together, if we work collaboratively.”

He also announced that Nigeria will host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, positioning the country as a hub for global PR professionals.

In his remarks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alh. Mohammed Idris, fnipr, pointed to notable gains under the Tinubu administration, including a N1.5 trillion investment in the Bank of Agriculture, as part of broader economic reforms.

He encouraged PR professionals to support efforts to reshape Nigeria’s global image and boost investor confidence.

Representing Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi emphasized the role of public relations in promoting economic development and national branding.

This year’s event, themed “Harnessing Public Relations for Nigerian Economic Relations,” underscores the growing importance of PR in driving investment, transparency, and trust in governance.

The ceremony also featured posthumous honors to three notable Nigerians, including late NPRW25 LOC Chair Dr. Uduak Obot, and the inauguration of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group’s Advisory Board, chaired by Dr. John Momoh, with Muhammed Kudu Abubakar as Secretary and CGC Bashiru Adeniyi as Vice Chairman.
