In a significant move aimed at enhancing food security in Irewolede Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State, the Executive Chairperson of the council, Hon. (Mrs) Dupe Bakare, on Thursday, distributed Agricultural inputs to farmers across the council area.
At a well-attended ceremony held at the council secretariat in Iloro-Ekiti, farmers received fertilisers, maize seedlings, sprayers, insecticides, and other essential farm implements.
The intervention is one of several initiatives spearheaded by Hon. Bakare since assuming office, aimed at improving the welfare of residents and boosting agricultural productivity.
The event drew key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, political party stalwarts, management staff of the council, and the Executive Chairman of Irede LCDA, Hon. Ayo Awe.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Bakare underscored the importance of empowering farmers as a sustainable solution to curbing the rising cost of food items and alleviating food insecurity nationwide.
She explained that the gesture aligns with the six-point agenda of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, whom she lauded for consistently making funds available to local governments and LCDAS, thereby facilitating tangible grassroots development.
Bakare reaffirmed the commitment of her administration to support agricultural programmes in a bid to ensure food security by increasing food production, reducing over-reliance on federal allocations, and creating sustainable agriculture practices.
“As we empower our farmers, we are not just boosting agriculture production, but we are also strengthening the backbone of our economy. Through this, we are equipping our farmers with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive,” she said.
In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of Irewolede Council of Traditional Rulers and Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti, HRM Oba James Olugbesoye; the lawmaker representing Ijero Constituency, Hon. Ademola Ojo; Executive Chairman of Irede LCDA, Hon. Ayo Awe; and the Head of Local Council Administration, Mr. Titiloye Omotayo, commended Hon. Bakare for her unwavering commitment to the development of all sectors within the council.
Expressing gratitude after the event, the beneficiary farmers who praised the council boss described the intervention as timely and pledged to utilise the items effectively to boost food production and contribute to food security in the area as well as the state at large.
In a similar gesture, Hon. Bakare extended support to 30 families with multiple births, distributing food packs and cash gifts to help meet their immediate needs.
She acknowledged the efforts of the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, for initiating support programmes for such families across the state.
In addition, vulnerable individuals and artisans who had sought financial assistance from the council received cash grants to strengthen their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
