FCTA clarifies revocation of PDP’s land title, reveals N7.6bn unpaid ground rent

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has denied selective revocation of the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, stating that the opposition party owes N7,603,504 million in unpaid ground rent from 2006 to 2025.

According to the FCTA Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the revocation affects only one property belonging to the PDP, located in the Central Area. Nwankwoeze clarified that the Wadata Plaza, which houses the PDP Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, is actually owned by Samaila Maman, who purchased it from Wadata and registered the papers through assignment.

The FCTA revealed that the PDP owes N2,848,173 in ground rent for 28 years, from 1998 to 2025. Despite notices to pay or risk revocation, the party failed to settle its debt, prompting the minister’s decision.

Nwankwoeze emphasized that the revocation was not selective, but rather a result of non-payment of ground rent by various institutions, including the Nigerian Post Authority (NIPOST), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Borno State government, and the National Universities Commission (NUC), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, and Nigerian Security Printing and Maintaining Company

The FCTA also approved contracts for the procurement of earth-moving machines and equipment, as well as Microsoft 365 software to enhance revenue generation and collection.
