I was forced to issue a statement against Senator Nwoko’s defection – PDP Chairman
By Samson Osuo-Lafia.
The Ward Eight Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Aniocha North Local Government Council of Delta State, Clement Chiazor, said he was compelled by the Delta State government to issue a statement against the recent defection of Senator Ned Nwoko to the All Progressives Congress.
Mr Chiazor was quoted in a statement by the media consultant to Senator Nwoko, Michael Ogar, as revealing the scenario behind his statement to the senator in a private meeting.
Recall that the ward eight chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Clement Chiazor, following the defection of Senator Nwoko, issued a statement criticizing his defection to the All Progressives Congress.
According to the statement, “It is nothing but a product of coercion, It is evident that the Delta State Government, desperate to control the fallout of Senator Nwoko’s exit, has resorted to compelling party loyalists to issue baseless and poorly scripted attacks against the person of senator Ned Nwoko”.
“Senator Nwoko, a foundation member of the PDP since 1999, did not leave the party on a whim, his decision was informed by the party’s internal divisions, lack of direction, and failure to meet the aspirations of its members and constituents, rather than addressing these pressing issues, the PDP-led Delta State Government has chosen to intimidate its members into making false and ridiculous claims against a man whose track record speaks for itself”.
“Mr. Chiazor’s statement is not a reflection of his true beliefs but a desperate attempt by those in power to save face. If the PDP in Delta State had the confidence of its members, it would not need to force anyone to attack Senator Nwoko. The fact remains that he left because the party has lost its purpose and no amount of propaganda can change that”, the statement declared.
It said Senator Nwoko remains focused on serving the people of Delta North and Nigeria at large.
His move to the APC is driven by a desire to contribute to national development under a platform that values progress and inclusivity.
The forced attacks against him, according to the statement, will not deter his commitment to public service.
The statement added that the people of Delta North are not deceived by these tactics but will continue to stand with Senator Ned Nwoko in his quest for better governance and a brighter future.
