Ritual killing, ICT fraud not credible paths to success, Ekiti Deputy Gov warns

...Gets Amoye Grammar School worthy ambassador award

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, has warned Nigerian youth against taking devilish and unclean ways to accumulate wealth, cautioning that the rampancy of cases of internet fraud and ritual killings are not the best and credible paths to success.

Mrs. Afuye urged Ekiti youth, in particular, to work by the ethos of Omoluabi values and promote the concept of honor and integrity their forefathers had embraced and are now being elevated by the government of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

The Deputy Governor remarked that education remains the best weapon to dismantle the castle of poverty existing in the society, saying this propelled Governor Oyebanji to invest hugely in the sector for the youth to acquire mental and physical skills that can better their lives.

Mrs. Afuye handed down the warning in Ikere Ekiti on Saturday while being garlanded with the Award of Worthy Ambassador by Amoye Grammar School as a distinguished alumnus to mark its 66th Founder’s Day Anniversary.

Thrilled by the award, Mrs. A.fuye appreciated the school management for the award, charging other alumni of the institution to give back by way of contributing to the development of the school to effectively play the role of building future leaders that can add value to society.

In the same fashion, she commended the school for sustaining the culture of academic excellence that helped in the production of high-profile dignitaries, like a literary giant, Prof Niyi Osundare, a Legal Icon, Chief Wole Olanipekun(SAN), former Deputy Governor and ex-Group Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc, Bisi Omoyeni, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dayo Akinlaja, among others.

Lamenting over the widespread erroneous belief by youth that they can only make headways through fraud and criminalities, Mrs. Afuye reminded us that ill-gotten wealth doesn’t profit a nation but can only bring fear, ill feelings, and threats to human existence.

“Flowing from the above, I want to charge the new generation of students and other Alumni to keep the flag soaring, so that we can keep the tempo of respect this school has earned over the years.

“To actualize this, I charge our students and alumni to refrain from devilish actions like internet fraud, popularly called Yahoo or yahoo plus, drug abuse, rape, ritual killing, kidnapping, robbery, corruption, banditry, certificate forgery, and other nefarious acts that can dent the image of this school.

“The most pathetic is the rampancy of internet fraud among our youths, who now perceive criminality as a way of life. Let me restate clearly here that no matter the level of economic hardship, unemployment, and poverty in the system, fraud, and criminality like Yahoo business is not a credible alternative and best path to success”.

Chronicling Governor Oyebanji’s remarkable exploits in the education sector, Mrs Afuye said besides payment of teachers’ salaries and deductions, that the current government ensured regular promotion, provision of monthly Running Grants to Schools, Free Jamb to students, and building of more model schools to increase academic facilities.

“This government is providing free shuttle buses for students, renovating schools and very soon, the government will begin the construction of Mega Schools in all the 16 local government areas of this state to accommodate more students”.

The National President of Amoye Grammar School Alumni Association, Dr. Oluwadare Adeyemo, appealed to his colleagues to join hands with the government to uplift the standard of the institution by providing facilities that can guarantee effective teaching and learning.

Appreciating the Alumni for their backing, Dr. Adeyemo posited that the government, with all its financial capacity, can’t solely provide all the facilities in the institution, saying it requires all hands on the plow to achieve this onerous task.

Expressing ecstasy over the school’s academic excellence spanning several decades, the Principal of the School, Mrs Adejoke Oyediran, charged the alumni to make financial sacrifices to provide facilities that can improve the institution’s aesthetic and learning environment.

Other alumni decorated with varying distinguished awards are Prince Dayo Emmanuel, Prof Julius Ajayi, Mrs. Bolanle Fagbuyi, Pastor Ajana Olaiya, and Dr. Babajide Faditan.
