The launch of the rice distribution program in the Niger Delta region before Christmas and New Year marked a significant step in the efforts of the Niger Delta Development Commission to ensure the availability of food on the table for the people. The NDDC, at the event, highlighted the commitment of the commission in collaboration with its Contractors to support their efforts aimed at alleviating food shortage during the period.
They highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution process while encouraging beneficiaries to use rice for personal consumption, not for profit.
Furthermore, the commission revealed that it was a collective decision by the management to cushion the effect in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renew Hope Agenda for the people to feel the impact of governance.
He also defined the target groups for this program, including artisans, non-profit organizations, student bodies, religious entities, and other community members in the region. According to the commission, the objective is to directly reach beneficiaries via structures organized for maximum impact.
Nonetheless, the commission stressed that the primary aim of the program is to provide essential food items to those in need, especially people with disabilities, demonstrating the commission’s commitment to social responsibility and people’s welfare programs.
The team thanked the Chairman, Managing Director, and other management staff for their foresight on the NDDC 2024 Food Support Programme in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Abia, Imo, and Ondo states.
Earlier, beneficiaries of the free rice distribution program thanked NDDC and Contractors for their supportive tasks annually and sense of responsibility for the festive period.
