Like a cat with nine lives, a factional local government Secretary for the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State, Hon Abiodun Kayode was a subject of attack when his vehicle was waylaid at Adigbe area of the State.Narrating the incident to Our Correspondent, an aide to the politician, Kunle Adebakin said the assailants who were on the pursuit of the politician opened fire on vehicle they thought Abiodun was traveling with and killed his driver, Tobi Ogunbanwo.The aide who was visibly shaking while speaking said this is the third term within a month that they will be a subject of attack by suspected political thugs hired by his boss opponents.He said he has been with Abiodun Kayode for a long time, but his predicament started when he left PDP for another Party and his former Party thought that he will leak the Party secret to the new Party he moved to a situation his old party saw to be the only stumbling block that will prevent them from achieving their aim.He said recently some hoodlums believed to be hire assassins waylaid them on his way from political party meeting.It was gathered that Abiodun Kayode a former chieftain of People’s Democratic Party was on the fateful day left a local government meeting held at Mokola area of Abeokuta, but had to detour to another area with a friend car, telling his driver to take his aide, and some of his friends to their destination when his car was attacked, with his driver killed in the process.It was also gathered that his aide, Kunle Adebakin sustained some injury during the attackAn eyewitness also told Our Correspondent that Hon. Abiodun Kayode has witnessed series of attacks in the recent by gunmen at several occasionsHe was saved by sheer luck It could be recalled that a similar attack was done on the Honourable when he was at a Church Service just few days ago.It was also gathered that some hoodlums went to his house and ransacked it. His belongings were roughly displayed.The cause of the attack, which some people described as an ‘assassination attempt’ could not be ascertained as of the time of this report as all attempts to get to him was unfruitful as our Correspondent gathered that he had been hiding since the incidents happened.It was also gathered that he had been receiving threat messages every now and then, a situation that made him went into hiding.His Aide Mr Kunle Adebakin said the only way for his boss to escape from this numerous attack is for him to hide himself as those people when they waylaid them on the road were keen at getting to him.“I don’t know why they have to turn politics to a do or die affair like this. But I just pray that the police do their job and apprehend these thugs before it took a fatal situation”
