Otti salutes Abia NAWOJ @34: Commends media women assistance in building new Abia

As the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Abia state chapter, rolls out drums to celebrate a remarkable milestone of 34 years in Abia state, the Governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex otti, has congratulated the association for their unwavering dedication in putting forward the rights of women and girls child and that of society in general.

The Governor, who was represented by the state commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, at a colourful ceremony held at the Police Officers Mess, Umuahia, on Thursday, thanked the media for assisting his administration in the building of a new Abia.

He thanked them for doing more in shaping the dissemination of correct information on the activities of his administration and challenged them not to relent until the new Abia of our desire is achieved.

Gov.Otti, said that the theme of their Anniversary celebration titled “Eliminating Obnoxious Cultural Practices against women” is apt and that his administration is working to ensure that nobody in the state is denied his or her right based on gender, adding that in his administration more women are occupying strategic positions in the making of the new Abia.

He promised to continue to partner with them and equally assist them in the area of logistics in the performance of their duty in the state.

In his remarks earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Dr. C.K.Okoro, Rector Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, equally congratulated Abia state chapter of NAWOJ and said that their voice has always stood strong for the voiceless and called on the association to remain committed to fairness in carrying out there reportage, adding that it’s inspiring to see that their hard work and fearless advocacy are been recognized by the society.

In her welcome address, the chairperson, Abia NAWOJ, Lady Josephine Ogwo, salutes the Governor of Abia state, for the massive infrastructural development witnessed under his administration, and called on him not to relent until a new Abia of our dreams is achieved.

She equally doff,her hat for the Abia first lady,Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for her pro active actions in championing the cause of the girl child, women and the vulnerable in the state.

“We are solidly behind you and look forward to partnering with your office in the crusade for a better deal for the female gender in Abia state,”NAWOJ Abia chairperson said.

She equally used the occasion to appeal to the Governor to donate bus to Abia NAWOJ to ease their movement and operations.

“We also request for an office space for use by the association in counseling men and women who are abused and their rights violated,”the chair lady appealed.

The highlight of the 34th Anniversary celebration of Abia NAWOJ, includes awards to three distinguished Abia citizens and the deliverying of anniversary lecture, titled”Eliminating Obnoxious Cultural Practices against women”, by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Becky Oguama.
