OYSIEC seeks support of Assembly to amend LG electoral law

Oyo state independent electoral commission has noticed some parts of the law that needs to be amended concerning the law guiding the conduct of local government elections in the state. 

  In order to achieve this aim,the commission is seeking the support of the Oyo State House of Assembly for the review and amendment of the electoral law. The chairman of Oyo State independent electoral commission,Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju made this known when himself and other members of the commission went on a working visit to the Office of the  Speaker,Oyo State House of Assem, Hon.Adebo Ogundoyin.

    The chairman of (OYSIEC) made their intentions known to the Oyo State House of Assembly reasons why State electoral laws needs to be amended in order to meet the modern voting way.

The chairman further expresses his joy as the Oyo State House of Assembly has shown it’s readiness to work with OYSIEC towards amending the law.    The chairman also said the commission is looking at the possibility of using another means of identification set aside to Oyo state alone. Like Oyo State Resident Identification card to complement the use of permanent voters card issued by INEC.   

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin appreciated the commission for the good move, The speaker said,the House will work on the proposed amendment once it gets to the members.

He also said this will be in line with the resolve of Gov.Seyi Makinde to improve all government departments, ministries and agencies. He said OYSIEC cannot be left behind in modern voting trends even INEC he concluded.
