Speaker, V-C task Nigerians on education
The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called for more support and encouragement for the youth to pursue western education for national development.
The speaker made the appeal at a reception organised by the Egbira community in the state in honour of Prof. Alhassan Usman, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Lafia (FULafia), at the weekend.
Balarabe, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr Suleiman Aboki, underscored the significant role of western education in societal development.
He called on his people to continue to support the younger ones to pursue education and get to its peak.
“I want to support and encouragement for the younger generation to pursue western education with all seriousness considering the importance of education to societal development.
“So that they will get to its peak for the growth of humanity, poverty reduction, innovations and the overall development of the society,” he said.
The speaker, who represents Umaisha/Ugya constituency at the state assembly, the same area with the celebrant, congratulated him for the feat so far achieved in life.
He wished him more successes in his future endeavours.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, FULafia, Prof. Shehu Abdulraman, who is also from Umaisha and leader of the organisers, felicitated with the celebrant over his professorship.
He said that the attainment of professorship in life career of Usman is worth celebrating, considering its benefit to humanity and advised him to ensure that he impacted more in the society with his position.
“Use your professorship to worship God, serve humanity and recognise excellence.
“As a professor, you are an asset to your people, the state, nation and the outside world, use your position to encourage the younger ones.
“I wish you well. I am happy today that we have four confirmed professors in Umaisha aside two that are already on their way to join the league,” he said.
Also speaking, Prof. Josephine Odey, Dean, Faculty of Education, FULafia, among other dignataries, congratulated the celebrant and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Responding, the celebrant, 52-year-old professor of Plant Genetics and Breeding, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, FULafia, Prof. Alhassan Usman, a native of Umaisha in Toto Local Government Area, appreciated his people for celebrating him.
Usman promised to consolidate on the achievement and provide services to humanity.
