Akpoti-Akpabio Feud: Kogi Central Constituents begin Natasha’s recall process

By: Goodluck E. Adubazi, Abuja.
The days ahead will be interesting for the embattled Kogi Central lawmaker, as her constituents move to recall her.
The recall process for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has commenced, with constituents of Kogi Central lining up to sign the recall register.
This development is the latest in a series of challenges facing the embattled lawmaker.
Senator Natasha, who was suspended by the 10th Senate for defying the Senate’s order, had earlier been warned by Senate President Godswill Akpabio with the statement, “This is not a nightclub.” The tension between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio has continued to escalate.
The recall process is a significant step, as it reflects the constituents’ dissatisfaction with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s outburst during the plenary session.
A Standard-Times correspondent, who has been following the feud, learned that if the recall process meets constitutional requirements, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan—who became the first female senator from Kogi Central through a court ruling—will also make history as the first senator in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be recalled by her constituents.
Kogi Central Senatorial District will be the first in Nigeria’s political history to produce three different senators in less than four years of legislative activity.
The outcome of this process will be closely watched, as it may have significant implications for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s future in the National Assembly.
