Lagos police dismantle internet fraud training centre, arrest 10 suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and shut down an illegal cybercrime training facility, commonly referred to as a ‘Yahoo School,’ operating in the Iju area.
In a statement late Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the operation, revealing that officers arrested four individuals, aged between 22 and 26, who were running the fraudulent scheme.
Additionally, six trainees, aged between 12 and 26, were apprehended while undergoing training in internet scams.
Investigations indicate that the masterminds behind the operation recruited their trainees from Anambra State, using them to carry out cyber fraud while keeping the illicit earnings for themselves.
All suspects have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further inquiry and legal action. Authorities are also working to identify and arrest those who financed the scheme, as well as the owner of the facility.
“The owner of the premises is strongly advised to surrender himself to the SCID in Yaba immediately, as law enforcement will not relent in bringing all culprits to justice,” the police statement warned.
Hundeyin further disclosed that a 12-year-old among the suspects was found with injuries allegedly inflicted by the ringleaders to force him into crime.
He is currently receiving medical care and remains in protective custody until his family is traced.
The police have urged victims of the syndicate’s fraudulent activities to report to SCID Yaba with any complaints.
