Amid renewed political exchanges over the role of Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke in Kogi State politics, attention has shifted to the lawmaker’s long-standing development interventions in Kogi West, with many describing his legacy as one defined more by tangible community projects than political rhetoric.
Recent allegations by Barrister Alfred Bello, accusing Faleke of fueling political crises in the state and urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restrain him, have generated public debate.
However, observers argue that beyond the political accusations lies a record of sustained investments in education, youth empowerment, healthcare and community development across Kogi West.
Although Faleke represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos State in the House of Representatives, he has continued to maintain strong developmental ties with his ancestral home in Kogi State, undertaking projects that are not part of his statutory legislative responsibilities.
One of the most notable beneficiaries of his interventions is the Federal University Lokoja, where he facilitated the donation of 100 laptop computers to enhance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) learning for students and staff.
He also supported the construction of the institution’s sports centre, contributing to improved infrastructure and a more conducive learning environment.
Beyond tertiary education, Faleke has sponsored scholarships for indigent students, paid external examination fees, donated educational materials and supported academic competitions aimed at improving access to quality education.
His empowerment programmes have equally focused on equipping youths, artisans and small business owners with vocational skills and working tools to promote self-reliance and economic growth.
Across several communities in Kogi West, his interventions reportedly include rural electrification projects, potable water schemes, community infrastructure, medical outreach programmes, agricultural support initiatives and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable residents.
Beneficiaries have also credited the lawmaker with facilitating employment opportunities for qualified Kogi indigenes in federal establishments, creating pathways for career development and economic inclusion.
Political analysts note that while no public official is beyond criticism or democratic scrutiny, assessments of public service should also take into account measurable contributions to community development and institutional growth.
They argue that while political controversies may dominate public discourse, lasting investments in education, infrastructure, healthcare and youth development remain the true indicators of leadership and public impact.
As political debates continue ahead of future electoral contests, many believe Faleke’s enduring relationship with Kogi West will ultimately be judged not by partisan exchanges but by the lasting impact of his developmental initiatives on the lives of the people.
