Hundreds of residents across Lagos Island Constituency I benefited from the sixth edition of the Oja Asiwaju, Eniyan L’Aso Mi Food Bank initiative organised by the member representing Lagos Island Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon.

This was disclosed through the media office of Hon. Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon, which stated that the outreach programme held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with aim to cushion the effect of the economy on the people of her constituency

The initiative provided food items and household essentials to residents at subsidised rates ranging from 50 to 75 per cent discounts to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges on families and vulnerable members of the constituency.

Speaking during the event, Oyekan-Olumegbon said the Food Bank initiative was conceived as a people-oriented intervention aimed at easing the burden of rising food prices and supporting residents during the current economic situation.

According to her, the initiative reflects her commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of the people of Lagos Island Constituency I.

“This intervention is our way of standing with our people. Eniyan L’Aso Mi simply means ‘People are my covering.’ We understand the pressure many households are currently facing, and this Food Bank is designed to ensure that no family in Lagos Island is left behind,” she said.

The lawmaker also announced the return of The People’s Market, noting that the initiative had been reintroduced “bigger and better” to provide constituents with access to quality and affordable goods on a sustainable basis.

“The People’s Market is back to deliver value, dignity and relief to the people of Lagos Island. We remain committed to sustainable programmes and interventions that directly impact the lives of our constituents positively,” she added.

Some beneficiaries commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful amid prevailing economic realities.

The Oja Asiwaju, Eniyan L’Aso Mi Food Bank forms part of Oyekan-Olumegbon’s constituency outreach and empowerment programmes focused on food security, social welfare, poverty alleviation and inclusive community development.
