FG declares May 27, 28 public holidays for Eid ul Adha

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the Islamic faith and the spiritual significance of Eid ul Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion, describing Eid ul Adha as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion towards humanity.

He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for peace, security and national prosperity as the country continues efforts toward unity and development.

The Federal Government also wished Muslims in Nigeria and the Diaspora a peaceful, joyful and blessed Eid ul Adha celebration.
