The Campaign Organization of Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, for Nasarawa State Governor, has condemned the State governor, Abdullahi Sule, for compelling public Office holders, including Local Government Officers and his aides, to support his recently announced preferred Successor.
According to the Organization, the use of State Influence to favour one individual against others in the race undermines Party unity and erodes public confidence.
The Campaign Organization, led by Director General Barrister Musa Hussain, announced this on Tuesday during a Media briefing in Lafia, the State Capital.
Barrister Hussain, who said, after careful review of recent developments in the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Wadada as his preferred Successor, come 2027, the campaign group of the Former Inspector General of Police considered the action as unconstitutional, misleading, and a direct threat to internal Party democracy.
“The APC Constitution clearly provides only two legitimate methods for the emergence of Candidates, direct primaries or consensus; there is no provision for unilateral adoption or imposition of any Aspirant by individual or Party structure. Claims that Party Stakeholders collectively endorsed an Aspirant are not reflective of reality”.
Speaking further, the group leader said the party governorship primary election is a democratic contest and not a coronation, hence every Aspirant deserves a fair and free level playing ground.
He said Party Officials at all levels need to be neutral, adding that any involvement in premature endorsement or partisan alignment in the State before the Primary elections constitutes misconduct and such will be resisted by the group.
