Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, Commissioned Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque in Tambuwal Reconstructed by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The mosque was abandoned by the previous administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Governor Aliyu explained that the reconstruction of the Jumu’at Mosque was initially awarded during Tambuwal’s administration but was abandoned despite its spiritual significance. The project was completed under Aliyu’s administration in 2023.
DG media and publicity to the government, Abubakar Bawa said Senator Wamakko requested that the State Government allow him to complete the project, which was gladly approved. Governor Aliyu described Wamakko as a philanthropist with a deep passion for Islam and service to humanity.
The Governor added that Wamakko has executed numerous mosques, Islamic schools, and charitable projects within and outside Sokoto State. He listed some mosque projects executed by his administration, including the Sheikh Musa Ayyuba Lukuwa Mosque and the Sheikh Abubakar Gummi Mosque.
Governor Aliyu stated that the construction, renovation, and upgrading of mosques form a major component of his 9-Point Development Agenda. He has commissioned several remodelled Jumu’at mosques across local government areas.
Senator Wamakko commended Governor Aliyu for his people-oriented projects and conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill message. The President asked Wamakko to tell Aliyu that he is proud of his efforts.
Wamakko explained that the reconstruction of the Buhari Dan Shehu Mosque aimed to complement government efforts to improve houses of worship and Islamic schools. He urged Aliyu to continue his transformative agenda.
The representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaid, emphasized the need for residents to utilize the mosque for Islamic propagation. The Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs commended Wamakko for his religious infrastructure projects.
Dr. Jabir Sani Mai Hulla noted that Wamakko’s establishment of the Ministry for Religious Affairs shows his passion for Islamic propagation. The Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Council, Abba Shehu Tambuwal, highlighted projects executed by Aliyu’s administration.
These projects include road construction, renovation of health centers, and procurement of mass transit buses. The council has also distributed motorcycles to security agencies and renovated vehicles and ambulances.
The Chief Imam of the Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque, Imam Maniru, led congregational Friday prayers and special prayers for Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko. The event showcased the government’s commitment to promoting Islamic values.
Governor Aliyu’s administration has made significant strides in promoting Islamic affairs and developing Sokoto State. Senator Wamakko’s philanthropic efforts have also contributed to the state’s development.
The commissioning of the mosque is a testament to the government’s focus on promoting Islamic values and improving infrastructure. The people of Tambuwal have benefited from the completed project.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Senator Wamakko and Professor Sambo Wali Junaid. They emphasized the importance of utilizing the mosque for Islamic propagation and community development.
