The recent reported increase in same-sex relationships in Edo State has stirred shock and concern among residents, particularly traditional leaders His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II and elders of the state.
According to information gathered by Daily Times, there has been a growing concern over alleged same-sex activities involving some youths in the state. A source, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, disclosed that about 12 youths were arrested a few days ago on 17th of January 2025 at the popular Wesley Hotel in Benin City over an alleged same-sex private party.
The source further revealed that among those arrested was a well-known member of the community, Mr. Jacob Obafemi, alongside others. Following police investigations, several other names were allegedly mentioned, including Emeka Obi, Ozase Osage, Micheal Osawaru Obasohan, infinity Osagie and Romanus Ifebi. It was gathered that some of the suspects are currently on the run.
The police have reportedly informed members of the community that anyone with useful information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects should report to the nearest police station.
Confirming the development, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Joel Yamu, stated that those arrested, as well as others allegedly involved, would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
SP Yamu urged youths in Edo State and across the country to remain law-abiding, stressing that unlawful acts would attract appropriate legal consequences.
