Zamfara State Government has offered free access to the Healthcare system and successfully enrolled about 120,000 vulnerable citizens who now gain free access to healthcare services across 147 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in 14 local government areas of the State.

The State Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Malan Mummuni, who doubled as Chairman Taskforce Committee, disclosed this at the monthly meeting of the State Taskforce Committee on Immunization and Primary HealthCare Service Development held at the state primary healthcare development agency, Samaru Area of Gusau, the state capital.

In his words, the Chairman of the Committee, Malam Mani  Mummuni, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to improving the healthcare and well-being of children and future generations.

He noted that strengthening primary healthcare remains central to driving sustainable economic growth and development.

The Deputy Governor commended the Executive Secretary of the PHCDA, the Commissioner of Health, state health teams, and development partners—particularly the World Health Organization (WHO), for their roles in the success of the recently concluded Measles-Rubella (MR) and Polio vaccination campaign.

He expressed concern over lingering challenges affecting routine immunization coverage, especially regarding preventable disease outbreaks such as polio, measles, and cholera.

He reassured stakeholders of the government’s readiness to continue providing an enabling environment and fulfilling its financial commitments to ensure improved health outcomes.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the performance of local government areas on routine immunization. Underperforming councils were urged to address existing gaps to avoid setbacks in the immunization campaign within their jurisdictions.

Also in the meeting, the ALGON Chairman announced a support package of ₦500,000 for each local government area as basket funding to strengthen healthcare service delivery across the state.

The meeting was attended by the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, representatives of development partners, and members of the State Taskforce Committee.
