The 20th coronation anniversary of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, was celebrated on Tuesday in Abeokuta with remarkable tributes highlighting his peaceful, progressive, and culturally impactful reign. The ceremony, held at the historic Cathedral of St. Peter in Ake, brought together dignitaries from within and outside Ogun State who honoured the monarch’s two decades of dedicated leadership.
Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele delivered the governor’s goodwill message and praised the Alake for what she described as an “impactful, peaceful and development-driven reign.” According to her, Oba Gbadebo’s leadership has been a stabilizing force in Egbaland, strengthening unity and accelerating community transformation across the Egba nation.
Salako-Oyedele commended the monarch for his moral guidance, exemplary conduct, and unwavering dedication to the progress of his people. She noted that under the Alake’s watch, Egbaland has continued to enjoy harmony, strengthened cultural identity, and steady socio-economic advancement. She added that his fatherly role has remained a source of pride to the entire state.
Salako stressed that Oba Gbadebo has consistently championed peace, cultural preservation, and community development. She explained that the monarch’s influence extends beyond the traditional sphere, contributing significantly to the overall advancement of Ogun State through collaboration with government and development partners.
In her remarks, she reaffirmed the commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to delivering impactful projects and supporting traditional rulers across all communities. The government, she said, remains committed to improving infrastructure, education, health services, security, and economic empowerment for the benefit of residents in every part of the state.
Salako-Oyedele further emphasized that the administration will continue to work closely with royal fathers to deepen grassroots development. Traditional rulers, she stated, are key partners in sustaining the peaceful environment for which Ogun State is widely known, and their guidance remains essential to the government’s success.
During the ceremony, the Alake of Egbaland expressed gratitude to the church for its support and spiritual role in the growth of the community. In a moment that drew applause, Oba Gbadebo described the cathedral choir as unmatched, declaring: “You are the best church in Nigeria; the kind of songs you sing is not sung anywhere.” He attributed the success of his reign to divine grace and the cooperation of Egba sons and daughters.
The colourful celebration drew prominent personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Aremo Olusegun Osoba; Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI); the Olu of Ilaro; the Olu of Itori; former UN Ambassador, Amb.
